DAVAO CITY — Over 4,000 persons were arrested and charged before the court here for violating community quarantine protocols.

Retired Police Colonel Angel Sumagaysay, chief of Davao Public Safety & Security Command Center (PSSCC), in an interview with Newsline, said since March 15, until some 4,219 have been arrested and charged for violations relative to the quarantine protocols.

Topping the list of violations includes failure to carry food and medicine pass, failure to wear a face mask, failure to follow social distancing, liquor ban, illegal gambling, hoarding among others, said Sumagaysay.

“Many of those arrested claim, they forgot their face mask and they left their FM pass, but it is not an excuse, because we are talking about safety and infection here and there is the law,” he told Newsline.

A liquor ban violator who was arrested in Talomo area this city in an interview with Newsline.ph claimed “We were drinking beer in a village center at about 10:30 in the evening, we were so relaxed because we thought everyone except us was asleep when the mobile arrived, I am willing to face the risk because I know I violated the law,” he said in vernacular.

Sumagaysay said many were arrested because the community tipped off the 911 emergency response center and reported the violations in their respective villages.-ezc/Newsline
