Davao City set to penalize residents found having mosquito breeding area

DAVAO CITY — A councilor here filed an ordinance that seeks to penalize residents who are found remiss of cleansing their areas and turned a mosquito breeding ground.

The resolution pushed by Councilor Joselle D. Villafuerte was passed for third and final reading on November 10, stated: “An Ordinance Strengthening and Institutionalizing the Davao City Mosquito-Borne Diseases Prevention and Control Program”.

The purpose of the ordinance, Villafuerte said is to contain mortality and prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, filaria, Japanese Encephalitis, malaria, zika virus disease, and the likes.

The ordinance also seeks to penalize violators P1,000 and two hours of community service during the first offense, P3,000, and four hours community service during the second offense and P5,000 and confiscation of items for the third offense.

The date from the Department of Health XI showed that from January to August this year, they recorded 1,253 case for Davao City alone.

While the DOH recorded 2,500 for the whole region. The statistics show, that 60 percent of the cases are from Davao City.-Newsline.ph
