DAVAO CITY — THE PANABO City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) held a city wide clean-up drive of “esteros” lately after floods hit the city because of heavy rains and clogged canals, creeks and other waterways.

The heavy rains pushed uncollected garbage into the city’s waterways, which worsened the floods.

CENRO carried out on September 20 the clean-up drive and was able to rid the city’s canal system and creeks and waterways with tons of plastic bottles, cellophane and other non-biodegradable garbage.

CENRO Specialist Norollah Pelayo urged residents of Panabo to follow waste management system to prevent floods and the proliferation of diseases.

Pelayo added there is a need for residents to properly manage their own garbage disposal in coordination with the local government’s waste management system.

He stressed that the clean-up drive was held to educate residents and to instil discipline to everybody.

The effort to maintain cleanliness in Panabo has long been one of the major programs of the Local Government of Panabo under Mayor Jose E. Relampagos.
