DTI provides P290K livelihood kits to Davao de Oro groups

October 2, 2022 by NewsLine Philippines

DAVAO CITY —The Department of Trade and Industry XI distributed P290,000 livelihood kits to two associations with 30 members here are the latest beneficiaries of in Davao de Oro recently.

The distribution was under the auspices of the Pangkabuhayan sa Pagbangon at Ginhawa (PPG) program of the agency. This is is a specialized program focused on the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA), as well as, those identified by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

The first group, the Pangamot ug Tabang ni San Isidro Association (PANTASIA) from San Isidro, Nabunturan received P148,100 worth of kabuhayan kits. These include sewing machines, piping machines, working tables, and other supplies and materials for slipper-making. These were turned over to its members last September 7 in the presence of municipal councilor Glenn Arangcon, representing Mayor Myrcocel Balil, and barangay captain Mario F. Bacolod of San Isidro.

Meanwhile, the second group was the Upper Ulip Solo Parents Home-Based Workers Association, which received the P148,902 worth of livelihood kits last September 9 at Upper Ulip, Monkayo. The package was composed of espresso machines, coffee grinders, water dispenser, freezer, electric burner, water bottles, tables, blender, electric kettle, mugs, thermos, sugar, and coffee beans were turned-over. These equipment and materials will be used for the “Kapehan sa Ulip” Coffee Shop, the brainchild, as well as, the result of the collaboration between the Philippine National Police – Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay (PNP-RPSB) and members of the association.

Present during the said turn-over were the members of the association, RPSB cluster 19, headed by PLT Eduardo C Manila, PNP-Provincial Community Affairs Development Unit (PCADU), headed by PMAJ Ranel B Marquizo, councilor Mary Ceniza, representing Mayor Manuel “Way Kurat” E. Zamora, and barangay councilor Jocelyn Francisco, representing barangay captain Fernando F. Latiban.

DTI-Davao de Oro provincial director lawyer Lucky Siegfred M. Balleque division chief Patrick Kim B. Evangelio, and senior trade and industry development specialist Faustino E. Diabordo likewise witnessed the turn-over ceremonies.

“We chose not to monetize our PPG assistance with the hopes of having these kits more useful to the chosen people’s organizations. Instead of money, these livelihood kits could directly be used to start and run the group’s chosen business,” Balleque said.

Additionally, the local trade chief emphasized the importance of sustainability and synergy when it comes to the assistance DTI provides to its chosen beneficiaries. The former is accentuated by the choice of assistance provided and the latter is highlighted by DTI’s partnership with the PNP-RPSB and the PNP-PCADU.

“Assisting our PPG MSMEs is not merely providing them with money to finance the business they want. Assisting the PPG MSMEs is making sure that they are sustainable through the provision of livelihood kits that they could directly and immediately use for their respective businesses. With the common goal of having a whole of nation approach, we opted to partner with the PNP-RPSB and PNP-PCADU. We are just so thankful that they are very responsive and active – which makes the implementation of PPG efficient,” added Balleque.

Currently, 22 more group beneficiaries across Davao de Oro are yet to receive their livelihood kits from DTI within the year. The office is targeting to cover a total of 720 beneficiaries in 2022-.PR
