DAVAO CITY —The body of Overseas Filipino Worker Jullebee Ranara was buried Sunday morning, February 5, 2023, at the Golden Heaven Memorial Park in Las Piñas City.

The charred body of 35-year-old Ranara was found in a desert in Kuwait, and according to reports, the suspect—the 17-year-old son of her employer—raped her and caused her to become pregnant. The suspect is already in police custody.

According to Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople, they will seek justice for Ranara’s death.

Kuwaiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah promised that their government will punish the suspect.

President P. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is scheduled to meet with officials in Kuwait to see what needs to be done to protect OFWs in Kuwait and prevent abuses like Ranara.

In February 2018, the body of 29-year-old Joanna Demafelis, an OFW in Kuwait, was found in a freezer.

There have been many documented cases of abuse committed against Filipino OFWs in Kuwait. The Philippine and Kuwaiti governments are working to stop these abuses. Paul T. Palacio
