SEOUL – In a significant international engagement, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte took the stage at the 2023 Global Education and Innovation Summit (GEIS) in South Korea as one of the speakers and the representative of the Philippines.

During her address, she shared a three-point proposal aimed at guiding policymakers and education experts in facing the challenges brought by digital education in the 21st century.

Firstly, she stressed the importance of preserving critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity among learners. She emphasized that the significance of critical thinking should be amplified in today’s world where learners have easy access to a vast array of information.

As educational institutions were forced to close due to the pandemic, the significance of enhancing learners’ communication, collaboration, and creativity skills became evident.

Secondly, she emphasized that technology should be centered on its impact on the development of learners.

Lastly, she highlighted that teachers and students, as the end-users, should evaluate and determine the effectiveness of a technology.

VP Sara Duterte expressed her gratitude for the Republic of Korea’s invitation and delivered the following message: “The ultimate result of all our efforts should be the molding of productive and peaceful global citizens, equipped with 21st-century skills, but with a heart for nation-building.”
