DAVAO CITY-— Hundreds of residents from Barangay Pichon in Caraga town Davao Oriental are trapped in their villages after tropical storm #TDKabayan caused landslides and mudflows which washed away the cemented road into a ravine.

Residents from Pichon need to ride a speed boat or a boat to reach the town center as the Lamiawan River Bridge was swept by the cascading water during the December 17 floods caused by Tropical storm Kabayan,

The provincial government have sent heavy equipment to clear the road with muds and uprooted trees, after which the government said they will rehabilitate the road and make it accessible to the residents who are 90percent Mandaya who live in the hinterlands of Sangab, the Paradise of Mandaya people .

Worse, rehabilitation is further aggravated as the flood waters washed away the Lamiawan River Bridge. The bridge connects Barangay Pichon to the town center.

The upland of Pichon has been declared as Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) area.

Municipal Mayor Ronnie Osnan and Provincial Governor Niño Uy are closely coordinating with the Philippine Army and the Philippine Coast Guard for the use of their speed boat and boat to transport the residents from Lamiawan to the center.

NOT ONLY ROADS

Many houses in barangay Pichon were also destroyed by the storm, residents temporarily stay at the tribal center in the village of Sangab.
