Davao Coast guard cleanse oil spill off city waters

DAVAO CITY– Personnel from Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao quickly responded to an oil spill incident in one of the city’s port on January 2.

Personnel from said agency immediately contained the sludge, which was a mixture of oil wastage mostly from diesel and bunker oil, and started cleaning up around 8 p.m. which lasted past 11 p.m. of Tuesday.

In a press statement, the agency said elements from its Marine Environmental Protection Force (MEPForce) and Special Operations Group (SOG) have responded to an oil spill incident at Km 11, Davsam Port, here.

The statement said they received a call at 7:50 regarding an oil spill incident on January 02, 2024, which affected an area approximately 200 Square Meters.

The Oil Spill Response Team utilized Oil Spill Absorbent Boom and Absorbent Pads to contain the spread and have successfully retrieved roughly 30 liters of oil.

But they have yet to determine the source of spill and the verification is still ongoing.
