BFAR donates P30-M for Multi-species marine hatchery in Samal island

DAVAO CITY — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources or BFAR XI donated P30-million fund to the local government of Island Garden City of Samal for the construction of a multi-species marine hatchery in the island.

The fund was released pursuant to Republic Act 11808, or the Act Establishing a Multi-Species Marine Hatchery in the Island Garden City of Samal, Province of Davao del Norte.

Relly Garcia, BFAR XI Regional Director, handed the check to Samal Island Mayor Al David Uy during the ceremony on January 10.

The hatchery will be built in Sitio Quidopong, Barangay Poblacion, Kaputian District, one of the fishing communities in the island.

With the establishment of the Multi-Species Marine Hatchery Project, BFAR expects the fisherfolks to earn more given the multi-species which they can harvest, and will result to increased income for their families.

In his message, director Garcia explained that the fund symbolized the support of the national government for the people of Samal and the effort to continuously develop fisheries and aquatic resources in the region.
