DAVAO CITY —The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a seawall in Barangay Tag-abaca, Basilisa, Dinagat Islands, to safeguard residents from severe coastal erosion and flooding.

According to DPWH Regional Office 13 Director Pol M. delos Santos, the concrete slope protection structure, extending 180.56 meters, is being implemented by the DPWH Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office (DEO).

As of the latest report, the project is 88.49 percent complete and is expected to be finished by the end of September this year.

“This seawall will provide crucial protection against harsh waves and erosion, significantly benefiting the local community,” Director delos Santos stated. “Additionally, it will offer practical advantages for local fisherfolk, as the structure will serve as a docking area for their fishing boats.”

The P57.19 million project includes a 2-meter-wide concrete walkway along the seawall, which will be used for sightseeing and fitness activities by residents.

The construction of this seawall represents a significant step in enhancing coastal resilience and supporting the livelihoods of those in Barangay Tag-abaca.
