DAVAO CITY — Former President Rodrigo Duterte will not attend today’s hearing convened by the House Quad Committee of the House of Representatives regarding the extra-judicial killings (EJK) that occurred during his administration.
In a letter addressed to the committee, Duterte’s lawyer stated that the former president is not feeling well and requires rest. He has requested to reschedule his appearance for a date after November 1.
Duterte, who is now in his late 70s, has faced various health issues in recent years, making age and health significant considerations for public appearances, especially at legislative inquiries that scrutinize his controversial policies and actions while in office.
The Quad Committee’s ongoing investigations focus on the alleged human rights violations during Duterte’s war on drugs, which has drawn international criticism and calls for accountability.
As a former leader who remains a polarizing figure in Philippine politics, Duterte’s absence from the hearing could impact public perception and the committee’s proceedings.
