Dabawenyo DCplinado now part of Davao schools’ curriculum

December 16, 2024 by Althea Beatrice Caduaya Felizarta

DAVAO CITY — The City Government of Davao, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) – Davao City Division, has officially integrated the Dabawenyo DCplinado program into the curriculum of schools.

The move is part of Davao City’s commitment to instilling moral values and self-discipline among learners,

The DCplinado modules were launched on Tuesday, December 10, at the Teodoro L. Palma Gil Elementary School, marking a significant step in fostering discipline and character development among students.

City Ordinance No. 0552-24 serves as the foundation for the program’s implementation. Its primary goal is to nurture strong moral character and instill discipline among Dabawenyo students.

The program will be incorporated into the existing Department of Education curriculum, particularly in Values Education (VE), Araling Panlipunan, Makabayan, and Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC).

Mayor Sebastian Duterte emphasized the importance of discipline in fostering a peaceful and prosperous community. “Why is there a big difference between people’s lives abroad and people’s lives here in our country? One major observation I made is that they know how to discipline themselves,” he said.

He added that the modules are a way to preserve the culture of discipline already evident among Dabawenyos. “I entered politics because I wanted to preserve this. I want discipline to remain in our city so that we can maintain peace and order,” he stated.

Duterte also expressed gratitude to those involved in developing the modules. “Thank you very much for your participation in creating the modules. This is a significant contribution to the future of our city,” he said, highlighting that the values taught in the program will shape the next generation of Dabawenyo children.

Reynante Solitario, DepEd Davao City Schools Superintendent, underscored the joint dedication of the city government and DepEd-Davao City Division in fostering values that define Davao City residents. “This initiative is an extraordinary opportunity to preserve the essence of our culture, respect for diversity, and unwavering sense of fairness and justice,” Solitario said.

He added that the modules reflect Davao’s rich cultural and historical heritage, promoting empathy, accountability, and respect for all members of the community, including women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), indigenous peoples, and the LGBTQ+ community.

“Through the commitment of our educators, the support of our partners, and the collaboration of our community, we ensure that these lessons will resonate in the lives of our Dabawenyo learners, shaping their character and strengthening their sense of social responsibility,” Solitario added.

Program Details and Rollout

The Dabawenyo DCplinado program will initially be taught to Grade 6 and Grade 10 students starting January 2025. The modules cover a range of topics, including:

  • Civic duty and community involvement
  • Adherence to legal requirements
  • Gender equality and cultural sensitivity
  • Self-discipline and moral conduct
  • Information and digital ethics
  • Environmental stewardship
  • Culture of security
  • Financial literacy

This initiative supports Dabawenyos’ collective responsibility to uphold ethical practices, protect the environment, and foster a culture of respect and empathy in the digital age.

The integration of the Dabawenyo DCplinado program underscores the city’s dedication to shaping well-rounded, socially responsible citizens who will contribute to a just, humane, and democratic society.
