DAVAO CITY, Philippines (May 28 ) -In a powerful convergence of storytelling and social impact, the Women and Children’s Desk of the Davao City Police Office is set to benefit from the partnership of POP Movie House, Newsline Philippines, and the Board of the Davao City Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development..
The agreement, signed in Davao City on Wednesday, aims to ensure that the film’s impact extends beyond the screen, fueling legal, psychological, and emergency assistance for vulnerable communities.
“We believe in using the power of cinema to create real-world change,” said Editha Z. Caduaya, producer of Sa Likod ng Tsapa and CEO of Newsline Philippines. “This partnership allows us to give back to the very people our film seeks to represent—the voiceless, the vulnerable, and the victims.”
Colonel Hansel Marantan, whose real-life story inspired the film, expressed his commitment to support those in need, “As someone who has lived through life-changing battles in the line of duty, I know what it means to carry wounds you can’t always see. That’s why I want to share with others who suffer in silence.”
Marantan, now officially classified as a Person With Disability (PWD) following life-altering injuries sustained during high-risk operations against criminal elements, also announced his commitment to support PWD organizations.
“I am one of them now,” he said. “I have 52 metal screws, four titanium implants, artificial knuckles, and I live with hearing loss. It’s my turn to give back.”
Roy Geonson, President of the board, said the movie is a reflection of the sacrifices made by the police, and the generosity of the producer and Marantan in sharing part of their proceeds means a lot for the protection and transformation program of the women and children’s desk of the city police.
The film, which chronicles Marantan’s controversial yet courageous journey as a police intelligence officer, will premiere internationally this July, with screenings scheduled in Poland and South Africa.
The partnership between Pop Moviehouse, Newsline Philippines, and DCPO’s advisory board signifies a strong statement: justice does not end when the credits roll—it begins when the audience rises to act.
