COTABATO CITY (September 23) – Officials reported on Tuesday that an incinerator at a thermal plant in Maguindanao del Norte was employed to destroy approximately PHP87 million in illicit drugs that had been confiscated.
Director Gil Cesario Castro of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) said in a statement that the incineration took place on Monday afternoon at the thermal plant of Lamsan Trading, a cassava-making facility in Sultan Kudarat town.
In addition to shabu, cocaine and dried marijuana leaves were destroyed.
BARMM Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua witnessed the destruction of illegal drugs and congratulated PDEA on its effective operation against prohibited substances throughout the region.
“You are assured of my unwavering support against illegal drugs because we must protect our future generation,” Macacua said in a separate message on Tuesday.
Burning the narcotics, he said, represents BARMM’s steadfast commitment to establishing a drug-free region.
The destruction was witnessed by representatives from the court as well as local government units in Sultan Kudarat and Maguindanao del Norte province.
