DAVAO CITY (September 25) – More than PHP700,000 in stipends have been distributed to 75 members of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) in the Davao Region, according to a report released Wednesday by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao (DSWD-11).

They received stipends for their July–September service under the Government Internship Program (GIP).

According to DSWD-11, each PYAP member received a PHP9,607.50 pay for 30 days of service from June 2 to July 31.

“Through this program, DSWD-11 strengthens its commitment to empowering young people by providing opportunities for capacity-building, civic engagement, and practical skills development,” according to the agency.

It said that the stipends are intended to recognize the youth’s contribution in public service and participation in development efforts.

In the meantime, on September 23, DSWD-11, through its Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth (RRCY), signed a memorandum of agreement with the Bureau of Plant Industry-Davao (BPI-11) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Davao (TESDA-11) in an effort to further empower the youth of the region.

According to DSWD-11 Regional Director Rhuelo Aradanas, the collaboration would give training and livelihood options for the youth through initiatives like as Bread and Pastry Production, allowing them to gain important skills and increase their employability.

More than 475 RRCY locals have received training from the three agencies since 2017 in areas like masonry, welding, housekeeping, motorcycle maintenance, agriculture, and food services.
