DAVAO CITY (October 29) – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday condemned continued foreign intrusions in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), warning that such actions “put Filipino lives at risk,” including fisherfolk in Mindanao who rely on secure maritime routes.
At the 5th ASEAN–Australia Summit, Marcos called for a “binding and substantive” Code of Conduct to prevent further provocations at sea and safeguard regional stability. He also assailed “illegal” efforts to declare Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough Shoal) a “nature reserve,” stressing that it remains an integral part of Philippine territory.
In Mindanao, the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard have intensified patrols across the Sulu and Celebes Seas to deter incursions and protect southern fishing communities. Marcos lauded Australia’s continued support through joint maritime exercises such as Alon 25.
“Securing our seas means securing the lives and dignity of every Filipino who depends on them — from the Ilocos coast to the shores of Mindanao,” Marcos said.
