MANILA (November 8) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has enforced a 60-day automatic price freeze on all basic commodities nationwide following the declaration of a state of national calamity due to the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi).
In a statement on Friday, the DTI said the price freeze will remain in effect unless lifted by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The agency assured that it is working closely with manufacturers, retailers, and distributors to maintain stable supply and prices.
“All DTI Regional and Provincial Offices are on heightened alert to ensure compliance and adequate supply across the country,” it said.
The DTI also reaffirmed coordination with the National Price Coordinating Council (NPCC) to safeguard consumers during this critical period.
According to the NDRRMC, Typhoon Tino affected over 635,000 families (about 2.26 million individuals) across eight regions, with 88,649 families still in evacuation centers and 23,350 receiving aid outside shelters. The disaster has claimed 188 lives so far.
