DAVAO CITY (December 10) — The municipality of Mawab in Davao de Oro is positioning itself for stronger local economic growth by streamlining its business permit and approval processes — a move aimed at lowering entry barriers for investors and supporting a rapidly expanding base of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Mayor Myrill Apit said the reforms are designed to make the town more competitive and investment-ready, especially as agriculture, local trade, and service sectors continue to widen their footprint in the municipality.

“We want to make it easier for business owners to invest and operate in Mawab,” Apit said Tuesday, explaining that offices have been instructed to simplify procedures, cut delays, and provide clear guidance to entrepreneurs. “A dynamic local economy starts with efficient services.”

The municipality is also developing capacity-building programs to help MSMEs meet regulatory requirements, strengthen financial and operational skills, and scale up sustainably — a move officials hope will translate into more resilient livelihoods and broader employment opportunities.

Mawab’s business landscape is anchored on agriculture, with bananas and coconuts driving local production, alongside a growing cluster of small retail and service providers catering to residents. Local officials say streamlined permitting will enable existing enterprises to expand and attract new investments to diversify the economy.

Apit emphasized that while the LGU is easing processes, compliance remains essential to maintaining fair competition and ensuring long-term business stability. “We fully support legitimate businesses, but operations must follow proper procedures,” she said.

With improved systems and a more predictable regulatory environment, the LGU expects higher investor confidence — a key ingredient in driving sustained economic activity at the municipal level.
