AFP Chief revisits his old army home, shares a glorious past with his troops

CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. revisited his old army home at the 6ID headquarters in Barangay Awang of Datu Odin Sinsuat town on Friday.

In his speech, Santos shared “I learned a lot from this unit because the 6th Infantry Division was my first assignment,” Santos told the 6ID personnel during his “talk to the troops”.

“I grew up here and gained a lot of experiences that prepared me for the challenges I have encountered in my career before I became the AFP chief of staff,” he added.

Santos served as the assistant division commander of 6ID from July to December 2016 where he gained his first-star rank.

Santos, the 53rd AFP chief of staff, was welcomed by Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, the 6ID commander and chief of Joint Task Force Central (JTFC), and Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana.

The command presented to Santos the recently confiscated, captured, surrendered, and recovered firearms of the command and the awarding of military personnel for their significant accomplishments in various fields of operations.

The AFP chief is set to leave the service come August 3, 2020, at the age of 56, the mandatory age of retirement for military servicemen.

He lauded the officers and man from Westmincom for their achievement in the fight against communist insurgents and violent extremists.

He also expressed his gratitude to the men and women of JTFC for their response to the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-9) pandemic, which contributed to the high satisfaction rating of AFP nationwide.

Speaking to his men, Santos stressed that the state of the AFP today has improved a lot compared to what it was 34 years ago. Newsline
