MANILA — Voting for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in Marawi City went on smoothly, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Saturday.

According to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, as of 11:30 a.m., no untoward incident had been reported in the area.

Jimenez, meanwhile, said “no turn-out data is available at this time, however anecdotal reports indicate healthy voter turn outs”.

He added that the Comelec Command and Monitoring Center in Intramuros, Manila is being updated regarding the elections in the war-torn city.

On the other hand, Jimenez reported that one teacher in Barangay Paridi failed to report for duty on election day.

“A trained member of the PNP substituted and the precinct opened for polls on time,” he said.

There are a total of 50,893 registered voters for the barangay polls while a total of 25,491 are eligible to participate in the SK elections in the BSKE in Marawi.

Regular voters will be electing one barangay chairman and seven barangay kagawads (councilors) while youth voters will be electing one SK chairman and seven SK kagawads.-PNA
