ZAMBOANGA (December 8) — The Bangsamoro government has taken a concrete step toward peace and normalization by breaking ground on 100 housing units for former MILF combatants in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur.

The project, led by the Ministry of Human Settlements and Development–BARMM (MHSD-BARMM), will rise on 3.5 hectares of land in Camp Omar, Lipongo village, donated by the municipal government.

Speaking on Saturday, MHSD Deputy Minister Aldin Asiri said the initiative reflects BARMM’s commitment to supporting former fighters as they transition to civilian life. “We are working hard to provide decent housing, especially to the Mujahideen,” he said.

Funded through the region’s Special Development Fund, each 48-square-meter unit will include three bedrooms, a living and dining area, kitchen, comfort room, and porch. The project site will also host community facilities such as a covered court, health station, multipurpose building, solar streetlights, a Level II water system, and improved access roads.

Mayor Prince Sufri Norabbie Ampatuan described the project as a symbol of hope and stability for the former combatants.

The groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, December 4, was attended by BARMM officials, local government representatives, security forces, and the partner construction firm.

The housing project marks a milestone in BARMM’s peace and development agenda, offering former fighters a tangible stake in building a more secure and prosperous future.
