BARMM to reforest 10,000 hectares of land

DAVAO CITY —The Bangsamoro government on Saturday launched the Integrated Bangsamoro Greening Program (IBGP) involving 10,000 hectares of open and denuded on Saturday, November 23, at Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim spearheaded the launching which will be implemented the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao Del Sur. The implementation will begin on December 1, 2019.

In his speech during the launching, Ebrahim emphasised the need for a unified effort to protect the environment of their homeland as it has been preserved by their forefathers through generations and it is but proper for the the new generation to protect the resources of the Bangsamoro Homeland.

To fully implement the IBGP, which is among the priority programs of Bangsamoro Government, the government contracted the services of 400 Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) members as palaw or forest rangers, said Environment Minister Abdulraof Macacua.

Those contracted to work are BIAF members who are not yet covered by the decommission process.

Macadua said “Since we lived in the forest before and part of our duty then was to protect the environment. This program will take us back again to forest to protect it,” Mr. Macacua said.-ezc/ with-PR
