Basilan PNP orders police precincts to set up checkpoints amid rising shooting incidents

LAMITAN CITY, Basilan— The police provincial office here has ordered the local police stations to beef up check and go massive in their inspections in the midst of rising shooting incidents involving motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Police Colonel Carlos Madronio who recently visited the city ordered his men to ensure that checkpoints are set up and everyone checked to avert furthing shootings perpetrated by still unidentified assailants.

Last week, in two days, two persons were killed while four others were wounded when motorcycle-riding gunmen shoot them in two separate occasions.

“All entrance and exits must be checked” Madronio ordered.

City Police chief Colonel Arlan Delumpines said they are looking into those cases but he did not discount the possibility that rido or clan fued could be among the reasons.

Given the culture Rido is possible, Delumpines explained as many of the victims are non-residents of Lamitan City.

Lamitan City is the economic corridor of Basilan.

During his visit, Mardonio ordered the police to secure the lives and properties “make sure that every motorists incoming and outgping are checked, ensure that everyone is safe.”

The order, Madronio said, does not only apply in Lamitan, but also in the different towns of Basilan province.-Sheerie Mae Gonzales
