BASILAN (October 14)  — Governor Mujiv Hataman on Monday launched “Magtanah” — short for Magtanim Para May Hanapbuhay — a new provincial program designed to strengthen agriculture and guarantee food security across the province.

More than 200 farmers signed up on Day 1 of the rollout and are now being validated to qualify for the assistance package, which includes seedlings, monthly stipends, and an assured market for their harvest.

Under the program, the provincial government will purchase farmers’ produce for food security and feeding initiatives, while also providing technical support, land preparation, and farm equipment.

“This is not just about planting, it’s about livelihood and food for every Basilan family,” Hataman said.

Magtanah will be implemented in Basilan’s two cities and 11 municipalities as part of a broader drive to make the province self-sufficient and uplift small farmers facing rising production costs and market barriers.

All purchased crops will be used for provincial feeding programs, rural health units, and emergency food distribution efforts.
