LAMITAN City, Philippines — An improvised bomb exploded near the house of Isabela City Mayor Al-Qaid Akbar, just ten meters away from the police checkpoint.
Th explosion happened at about 6:00 in the evening Thursday September 28 at Purok Rubber in Barangay Sumagdang in Isabela City, the capital of Basilan province.
Supt. Jerome Afuyog, Isabela City police chief, said the post-blast investigators established that the explosion was triggered by a cellular phone connected to it.
Afuyog said the explosive ordnance division (EOD) personnel recovered from the blast site parts of a cellular phone, nine-volt dry cell battery, a plastic bag and powder residue.
The explosion caused no damage nor casualty but police are investigating the motive behind the incident.-Richard G. Falcatan/Newsline.ph
