6 soldiers, a suicide bomber killed, 20 wounded in Jolo twin explosions

DAVAO CITY — Six soldiers and a suspected lady suicide bomber were killed while twenty others were wounded in two separate explosions in Jolo, Sulu at about 11:53 Monday morning, August 24.

Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, commander of the Western Mindanao Command in an interview with Newsline.ph said the two separate units of the military were doing the marketing, one from the 21st Infantry Battalion and the other from another company.

“Nag-marketing sila, nagpark ang dalawang vehicle, while waiting sa kasamang namalengke, when the first bomb went off, “Vinluan told Newsline.ph.

The first bomb exploded along Sirantes St. near Paradise Food Shop killing five soldiers on the spot and wounded 16 other militaries.

The second explosion happened after an hour in Arolas St., Walled City which killed another soldier, a female, and wounded four civilians.

“Yong female casualty sa second bombing, ito yong we suspect na female suicide bomber, Vinluan told Newsline.ph.

As of this publication, the bomb squad of the military and the Philippine National Police are in the area as the military still run after the suspects whom Vinluan believe is still in Jolo.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
