DAVAO CITY (October 20) — A major section of the Bukidnon–Davao Road (BuDa Road) in Overview, Palacapao, Quezon, Bukidnon was declared impassable on Saturday, October 18, after a massive road collapse, prompting emergency response, search operations, and traffic rerouting.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Northern Mindanao said the damaged portion sustained severe structural failure, forcing a full closure to all types of vehicles.

Authorities also launched search and retrieval operations after reports that two people on a motorcycle may have been trapped in the landslide. Teams from local governments, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine National Police are conducting joint operations in the area.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon ordered the immediate closure of the road as engineering teams assess damage and determine necessary interventions.

Alternate routes for motorists

The DPWH advised light vehicles to take the following alternate routes:

  • Cagayan de Oro–Tagum: Junction Sayre Highway–Valencia City via Kapalong–Talaingod–Valencia Road
  • Maramag–Davao City: Via Junction Bukidnon–Davao Road–Cotabato Boundary–Carmen–Kabacan–Kidapawan–Digos City–Davao

Traffic signs and personnel have been deployed to guide motorists and prevent congestion.

DPWH said restoring BuDa Road is a top priority given its critical role in trade, mobility, and the movement of goods between Northern Mindanao and Davao Region. Updates on repair and rehabilitation are expected once the initial assessment is complete.
