Cagayan City launches first Technical Vocational Institute

August 19, 2018 by Althea Beatrice Caduaya Felizarta

Cagayan de Oro (August 19)– The Cagayan de Oro City Government has launched its first Technical Vocational Institute in the city last August 17, 2018, at Brgy. Agusan, Cagayan de Oro City.

The Cagayan de Oro Technical Vocational Institute (CDOTVI), offers the following TESDA-registered qualifications: Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I and NC II, Carpentry NC II, Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II, and Housekeeping NC II, on various modalities, namely, school-based, center-based, community-based, industry-based, and mobile. CDOTVI will also embark on Heavy Equipment Servicing Program.

The City Technical Education Skills Development (TESDEC) is pushing the establishment to be a center that could accommodate more training, equipment and facilities, and workshop areas.

“This is a product of leadership.  The main challenge is how to make sure that the management of this institution will go above par.” Ariel Hernandez, TESDEC chairperson, said.

The first batch of the trainees has been already profiled and shortlisted and soon to commence through TESDA and Senator Loren Legarda’s Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) and Special Training Program (STEP). There will be more courses offered next year.

Jason Elcarte, 29, from Bugo, a trainee, take the advantage on enrolling in the program to provide enough skill for his self. “This is a chance for me to acquire some skills on welding. I am taking the SMAW program (Shielded Metal Arc Welding). I am thankful that they offer community-based training, since I have a daily job.” Elcarte said.

CDOTVI is open to all private TVIs and public senior high schools who would like to avail the institution’s facilities and equipments for its K to !2 program. Next year, CDOTVI will take-off its own Assessment Center.   Hensell Hebaya/NewsLine
