Comelec director denies threatening Ateneo professor

March 23, 2018 by Editha Z. Caduaya

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Regional Director Remlane Tambuang strongly denied reports that he threatened a professor but admitted going to Ateneo de Davao University to clarify issues regarding his son, who was not allowed to graduate this March.

Tambuang in an interview with Jun Bersamin of DXAB/ABS-CBN, Friday morning clarified he did not threaten anyone. “Hindi ako nanakot, pumunta ako doon para mag- clarify,” he said.

During the same interview , he admitted he was emotional but stressed he never threatened professor Niel Pancho.

Tambuang narrated, it was his second visit to the school, the first was on March 15. he waited for five hours but Pancho did not show up. Tambuang issued a statement through his lawyer Allan Kadon, denying the threat.

“To make things clear, I would just like to say that I went to AdDU as a parent, who has a son, and not as a lawyer or a public official for that matter,” he said.

Tambuang said his son had told him he would not be able to graduate because of a failing mark, when he did not fail in the two grading periods. Tambuang said the teacher who gave his son the failing mark would not face him.

“I would like to reiterate there was no threat committed to anyone. It was a false media statement that blew out of proportion. Still with all honesty and sincerity, I apologize to anyone who may have been hurt because of this unfortunate incident, especially to my children. I never made any wrongdoing, I was there only to ensure and protect the interest of my son,” he said..
