Congressman’s son killed in Cagayan de Oro

November 12, 2021 by Bobby Lagsa

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — – A son of Cagayan de Oro First District Congressman Rolando Uy, Roland Sherwin “Tawi” Uy, and his quarry site caretaker Samuel Pabalan were killed inside their quarry stockyard on Thursday afternoon, November 11, 2021.

Tawi Uy , served as councilor of Barangay Carmen where his mother Lorna serves as Barangay Captain. His brother Rainer Joaquin Uy is this city’s vice-mayor.

Barangay Carmen is one of the city’s thickly populated barangays.

Police investigators said that the shooting took place around 1 pm in Zone 1, Barangay Pagatpat, inside Tawi’s makeshift quarry office.

Rubie Alayuay, Tawi’s driver, is the lone survivor of the attack. He claimed he was inside the restroom when he heard a man talk to Tawi and ask about the prices of gravel and sands, what follows after are gunshots.

“I heard a motorcycle approach and then someone talked to Tawi and then I heard gunshots,” Alayuay said.

Fearing for his life, Alayuay hid inside the restroom until the gunman left. “I then called the Uy family about what happened,” Alayuay said.

Police Major Jerson Estanilla, station commander of Bulua Police Station said that Tawi Uy was shot in his left eye.

The Scene of the Crime Operative team leader by Police Captain Dr. Paulo Benedicto Acosta III said that Tawi Uy was shot six times, “Two bullets his abdomen, two on both sides of his shoulders and two on his head,” Acosta said.

Acosta added that Pabalan was shot twice in the chest area.

“We have asked for an autopsy so that we can really have strong evidence,” Acosta said “We also recovered eight fired cartridge cases and four deformed bullets,” he added.

Mayor Oscar Moreno who inspected the site ordered a manhunt for the killers.
