DAVAO CITY (June 7) –The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) confirmed on Saturday the death of Luis “Ka Louie” Jalandoni, senior political consultant of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and a member of the CPP’s Central Committee. He was 90.

Jalandoni died peacefully at around 9:05 a.m. (3:05 p.m. Philippine time) on June 7 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. No cause of death was disclosed, but reports said he had been ill.

In a statement, the CPP Central Committee expressed its condolences to Jalandoni’s family and lauded his decades-long revolutionary service. “In recognition of his lifelong dedication and contributions to the people’s democratic revolution, the Central Committee of the CPP confers its highest honors to Ka Louie Jalandoni,” it said.

A former Catholic priest from Silay, Negros Occidental, Jalandoni joined the underground movement in the early 1970s and became a founding member of the New Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP). He later led the group’s peace negotiating panel from 1995 to 2016, representing the revolutionary movement in talks with several Philippine administrations.

He remained in exile in the Netherlands for decades, continuing to advocate for peace based on social justice. He was designated a terrorist by the Philippine government in 2022 but maintained his stance for negotiations and reforms.

Jalandoni is survived by his wife, fellow revolutionary Coni Ledesma. The CPP has not yet released details of memorial arrangements.
