DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture has appropriated P740-million budget for the renovation and rehabilitation of Agdao public Market.
Councilor Edgar Ibuyan, chairperson of the Committee on public enterprise during the weekly Pulong Pulong ni Pulong , revealed “The proposed Renovation and Rehabilitation of the Bankerohan and Agdao Public Market.”
The Agdao market has been operating for years and it needs rehabilitation and renovation, Ibuyan stressed “We need to upgrade and modernize it.”
But only the Agdao can be undertaken since the property of Bankerohan Public Market remains a private property.
The government envisioned to put up a New Supermarket in Agdao.
Agdao Public Market is one of the three biggest public marketer here.
The city government of Davao earlier proposed for a P200 million but the Department of Agriculture made it 740 million for the whole renovation and rehabilation
of Agdao Public Market.
“It will be Agdao first because the City Government and the Marfori’s, the property owner of Bankerohan Public Market, has yet to discuss the proposed rehabilitation since the present deed of donation specifies that it is just a market, we have to consult them about the plan.”
The 740 million budget will be downloaded anytime this year, the budget will be charged against the annual budget under the Department of Agriculture, Ibuyan added.
The project will be undertaken by DA, but Mayor Sara Duterte suggested that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will implement the project.
Duterte-Carpio also suggested that a portion of the Agdao Public market should be an air conditioned.
The renovation and rehabilitation will be undertaken in three phases until its completion.-Jiann A. Padillo/Newsline.ph
