Davao City celebrates 38th Kadayawan Festival

DAVAO CITY – The vibrant and culturally rich city of Davao welcomed all to partake in the festivities of the 38th Kadayawan Festival, a celebration that embodies the beat and rhythm of culture and community. Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte extended a warm welcome to everyone, inviting them to join the groundbreaking Indak Indak sa Kadayawan 2023, a highlight of the festival. The event, held on August 19, 2023, at 2 pm, took participants from Roxas to San Pedro Square, fostering unity and celebrating diversity.

Among the colorful celebrations, the Hiyas sa Kadayawan 2023 took center stage, culminating on the night of August 17, with an exceptional display of culture and unity. This year’s Hiyas sa Bagobo-Klata, Kristine Claire Tar, stood out as an example of unity, culture, and progress. Her coronation marked her as this year’s Hiyas sa Kadayawan, symbolizing the essence of the festival.

The Hiyas sa Kadayawan court was had members representing various facets of harmony, growth, and culture. Juhanah Sultan of Hiyas sa Bangsa Maranao represented unity, while Althea Asnawi of Hiyas sa Bangsa Taosug symbolized growth. Hiyas sa Panaghiusa embodied harmony, and Hiyas sa Kalambuan represented the pursuit of progress.

The event not only celebrated the beauty of the candidates but also highlighted their roles as representatives of legacy and aspirations for their tribes and the entire city of Davao. As the festival came to a close, the spirit of unity, culture, and progress continues to resonate throughout Davao City.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte emphasized the significance of Kadayawan Festival as a platform to showcase the diverse cultural tapestry of the city and its commitment to fostering harmony among its people. The festival stands as a testament to the city’s vibrant heritage and the unity that defines its community.
