Davao golfers raised P300k for COVID-19 frontliners’ PPE at SPMC

March 26, 2020 by Editha Z. Caduaya

DAVAO CITY — The fund raising started in a viber chat on Tuesday  among golfers who talked about the need to augment personal protective equipment for  coronavirus frontliners at the Southern Philippine Medical Center. Soon after the chat, the online campaign started and in 24-hours, they raised P270,000.

The Newsline has been included in the thread but no one wants to be identified as donor or leaders while cash donations were raised through online bank deposits and in few cases money transfer with only one person moving. This took place as Davao City  strictly followed the stay-at-home policy.

The campaign started on March 24 at 11:00 in the morning and ended yesterday after the desired amount was raised from 41 donors. The money will be used to purchase 200 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all frontliner at the SMC and N95 face mask.

The group plans to provide one set (to include PPE and N95 face masks) to each of the 200 frontliners as soon as the supplies are delivered. “We placed the order already and it will arrive anytime soon,” says a lawyer-member of the group.

A certain Junjun  was in-charged  to place the order online   and said that “Every single detail of the donation like  bank transfer note, amount and other reference is listed for transparency purposes”.

At is now, frontliners at the SMPC are doing their best to protect their suits until the next supply becomes available as shipping for new PPE is a challenge given the lockdown, though the Bureau of Customs vowed to hasten the release of goods relative to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
