STO. TOMAS, DAVAO DEL NORTE— Some 200 medical front-liners here received anti-covid-19 vaccine jab from AstraZeneca on Thursday, March 19.
Those who received the vaccine were workers from the Municipal Health Center and private hospitals, dubbed as ” “Resbakuna Kasangga Ng Bida”.
The first to get inoculated was Davao del Norte Board Member Dr. Denise Marianne A. Lu, spouse of the late Dr. Daniel A. Lu.
“This vaccination program of the government will help keep us all from getting COVID-19. We believe that getting a COVID-19 vaccine may also help us from getting seriously ill even if we get COVID-19,” said Municipal Administrator Atty. Elisa Evangelista-Lapiña.
Lapiña, who is also vice-chair of the Santo Tomas LGU COVID-19 Vaccination Operation, said that getting vaccinated would help the national government achieve the so-called “herd immunity” where a sufficient percentage of a population has become immune to infection through vaccination.
“We can only achieve herd immunity if you choose to be vaccinated. The COVID-19 vaccination is a safer way to help and build this kind of protection,” Lapiña said while addressing the medical front-line workers.
Meanwhile, Municipal Health Officer Dr. June Lim emphasized that the COVID-19 vaccination would be an important government program to end this pandemic.
“Getting a vaccine will certainly offer some natural protection. This is the only tool that can help us end this public health crisis. On top of this, we reiterate that we must not also be complacent in observing the public health minimum standards like wearing of masks and social distancing as this would help us reduce our chance of being exposed to the virus or spreading it to others,” Lim said.
As programmed, the first roll out is intended for all medical frontliners.-Newsline.ph
