MANILA (August 29) —The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is expanding its internship program, which might soon allow junior high school students to work in government offices.

According to the DOLE, the Government Internship Program (GIP) will provide students with work experience and the opportunity to pursue a career in public service.

“Beneficiaries can take advantage of up to one year of internship through the GIP.” The junior high school students who were previously excluded will now be eligible to participate,” said Patrick Patriwirawan, DOLE Bureau of Local Employment officer-in-charge.

According to Patriwirawan, the number of GIP beneficiaries has reached 43,658 as of this month.
He stated that high school, technical vocational, and college graduates are offered three to six months of paid internships in national and local government units under the GIP.Aside from GIP, Patriwirawan stated that the DOLE is launching a specific program for student employment around the country. As of August, 87,588 pupils benefited from the SPES.

To take advantage of the many government employment initiatives, Patriwirawan advised students and job seekers to contact their nearest public employment service office or search for openings on their job-matching portal.
