DAVAO CITY – A sudden descent of a dump truck from Catalunan Grande resulted in a major collision involving several vehicles at approximately 3:25 PM today. The incident occurred at the intersection of Carlos P. Garcia Highway and Catalunan Grande in the Bangkal area of the city.

According to the initial police investigation, a Toyota Vios was the first vehicle to collide when the Sinutruck Trailer Palletized Truck, carrying a load of soft drinks, shifted lanes unexpectedly. However, little did anyone anticipate that the dump truck, driven by Ramel Antiola Egagamao, would rapidly descend from Catalunan Grande, seemingly losing control and crashing into other vehicles.

The dump truck first collided with a motorcycle and a Toyota Fortuner. Due to the impact’s intensity, the Fortuner was pushed and wedged under the trailer truck, while the dump truck continued its trajectory, hitting a Ford Ranger pick-up. This domino effect continued, involving a Nissan Navara pick-up and a Hyundai Accent taxi, all coming in contact with the dump truck, causing a series of collisions.

Three individuals were reported injured in the incident. Among the victims are motorcycle rider Errol Art Labrague Garcia and two passengers inside the Toyota Fortuner. All injured parties were promptly attended to by responding paramedics from Barangay Catalunan Grande and were transported to Davao Doctors Hospital for medical treatment.

Authorities are currently conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the dump truck’s sudden descent and to assess the extent of damages to the involved vehicles. Traffic in the area has been significantly affected, and authorities are urging motorists to take alternate routes while the scene is being cleared.
