EDMONTON, CANADA — A Filipino-Canadian deacon has reached out to the Edmontonians to join them in a “Mass for Peace in Marawi” on Friday, August 4, here.
Deacon Gem Mella announced that the 7 p.m. mass at the Corpus Christi Parish will be officiated by Father J.Roy Allan Laudenorio.
Mildred Balmores, whose son Mark is a photojournalist covering the Marawi Crisis, has been praying every day for the safety of his son and other journalists doing their jobs.
“Talagang natatakot ako. Sana matapos na ang gulo sa Marawi (I’m really scared, I wish the Marawi crisis ends”” she told Newsline.ph.
The Marawi crisis broke off May 23 when government troops tried to serve the warrant of arrest for Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and ISIS “emir” in Southeast Asia.
But the group of Isnilon who aligned with the terrorist Maute brothers fought back which led to the still running war in Marawi displacing over 200,000 people.
