Firearms seized in Cotabato City village chief’s residence

COTABATO CITY — Police seized two firearms and ammunition from the house of a village chief here on Tuesday.

In a report forwarded to media outlets here on Thursday, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-BARMM) identified the arrested suspect as Peter Cortez Morales, village chief of Barangay Rosary Heights 1, this city.

“The raid forms part of Oplan Paglalansag Omega currently being implemented in areas covered by CIDG-BARMM,” said Police Col. James Gulmatico, head of CIDG-0BARMM, in a statement.

BARMM covers the provinces of Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Basilan, and Lanao del Sur; the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi; and 63 villages in six towns of North Cotabato province.

Armed with a search warrant issued by a regional court in Kabacan, North Cotabato, the elements of CIDG-BARMM swooped down on the residence of the suspect in Pedro Colina Hill, Cotabato City, and served him the order around 6:30 a.m.

Seized from Molina were two unlicensed Remington .45-caliber pistols, magazines, and ammunition.

Charges for violation of R.A. 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition) were readied against the suspect currently held at the CIDG-BARMM custodial facility here. (PNA)
