For failure to pay taxes, city auctions over P88-M store stocks

DAVAO CITY — In an effort to generate income from the goods and appliances seized from a commecial store which failed to pay taxes, the city government of Ozamiz auctioned several items owned by a commercial which amounts to over P88-million.

In a report by the Philippine News Agency (PNA), it said Rutheza Grace Ouano, the Local Treasury Operation Officer of Ozamiz opted to auction the goods which consist grocery items, dry goods, electronics, and appliances.

The city government arranged some 30 lots with grocery items sold at a starting bid price of PHP10,000 to PHP500,000.

However, the price for the appliances had discounts of PHP10,000 while perishable goods nearing expiry are offered with 35 to 50 percent discounts.

The report stated that Quano said “Some items will likely have a ‘buy-one-take-one’ bargain, with a 35 percent discount. This is already cost-friendly,.”

The city government opted to auction the items to generate fund to cove the unpaid tax obligations of the businees operator who violated the 2013 Revised Omnibus Revenue Code.
