Dubai, Uinited Arab Emirates – Four young Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were killed on their way to Good Friday mass while two others were injured in a freak road accident in Abu Dhabi, morning of April 14.
The names of the dead victims are being withheld pending notification of their families in the Philippines. Two other victims are presently confined in Al Rahba Hospital at the capital due to multiple injuries. One of them is in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Initial reports revealed the six OFWs, all residents of Dubai were on their way to St. Joseph Church in Abu Dhabi to attend Good Friday, when one of their tires burst near Al Shahama area.
The driver and the three victims got off the car to check the extent of the damage when a speeding car from behind suddenly bumped the parked victims car.
The remains of the four Filipinos, ages 23 to 27 years old, are now in the morgue of Khalifa Hospital.
The driver of the other car, also from Southeast Asia is also currently confined in an undisclosed hospital due to injuries.
The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi is now coordinating with the Abu Dhabi Police handling the investigation of the incident. The embassy’s Assistance to National (ATN) section is handling the case.
Some members of the Filipino organizations in the capital are helping the relatives of the victims cope with the tragedy. – Patricia Cleo
