ZAMBOANGA CITY (November 4) — From classrooms to coastlines, Globe is helping communities across Western Mindanao thrive through programs that build digital skills, empower youth, and protect the environment.
In partnership with Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Globe launched the Digital Horizons for Out-of-School Youth (OSY) program, designed to equip young Filipinos with digital literacy, leadership, and teamwork skills to prepare them for future jobs and civic roles.
A total of 40 out-of-school youth and 117 WMSU students, faculty, and staff joined the first run of the program, which aims to make digital learning more inclusive and accessible in the region.
Globe also brought its GT Coop CAREavan to WMSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Education, where more than 150 participants joined a day of learning and volunteerism. The event featured the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), which covered topics such as online responsibility, cyberbullying, and telecommunications basics. Volunteers also turned over shoes and whistles as part of Globe’s youth empowerment drive.
Beyond the classroom, Globe volunteers teamed up with fisherfolk and local leaders in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental, for the Coastal Digital Roots project — planting 917 mangrove seedlings in Barangay Baybay to help protect the shoreline and strengthen community resilience to climate change.
“These efforts reflect Globe’s commitment to care for people and the planet,” said Aldwin Mahusay, Globe’s Assistant Director and HR Business Partner for VisMin. “Whether it’s empowering youth or restoring the environment, we want every Filipino to benefit from progress.”
Through these initiatives, Globe continues to champion digital inclusion, environmental protection, and community development — showing how technology and teamwork can make a lasting difference across Mindanao.
