DAVAO CITY — Senator Bong Go, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, led a hearing on January 16 to address issues within the country’s healthcare system, focusing on improving access to health services, particularly for the poor.

During the hearing, Go emphasized the need to ensure that health services are accessible to all Filipinos. “Health should not be a privilege for only a few. We must ensure that every Filipino has access to health services, especially the poor and those who cannot afford to pay. Health is a basic right, not a privilege for only a few,” he said.

Go also highlighted the rising medical expenses, noting that an 18.3% projected increase in medical costs for 2025 will further strain Filipino families. “This means that Filipinos’ pockets will be even more drained,” he added.

While acknowledging the recent PhilHealth reforms, including higher coverage for critical illnesses such as heart attacks and kidney transplants, Go stressed the importance of ensuring transparency and effective implementation of these reforms. “Look at the changes that you should make so that you can extend the program even further. You should ensure that there is a clear system so that each member knows what benefits they will get,” he said.

r Go reiterated his commitment to health reforms to make the healthcare system more accessible and compassionate for all Filipinos.
