DAVAO CITY (April 16) –– An agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) who is scheduled to marry his fiancee tomorrow (April 17) died in a car mishap Sunday night along the highway of South Upi, Maguindanao.

Brig. Gen. Graciano Mijares, BARMM police director, said PDEA agent Aljhun Carim was driving his motorbike heading towards the municipality of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, to prepare for his wedding tomorrow, when he was hit by the cargo truck bearing license plates WGK 502, driven by Joel Jardin.

“Carim was scheduled to marry his fiancée on Wednesday and was heading to Kalamansig for the wedding when the ill-fated incident took place,” Mijares said.

Police investigators believed Jardin , an incumbent barangay official in Barangay Romongaob, South Upi, fell asleep and didn’t notice Carim’s motorbike while traversing the highway at about 8 p.m Sunday.

The PNP and the PDEA BARMM plan to file charges charges against a truck driver.

Carim died on the spot due to fatal head injuries.

Mijares has ordered the South Upi police to fast-track the investigation and the filing of appropriate charges against Jardin, who is now detained at the town police’s lock-up cell.

Mijares said the South Upi municipal police will compel the owner of the vehicle that rammed Carim’s motorcycle resulting in his death to extend help for his burial.-Editha Z. Caduaya/NewsLine.ph
