DAVAO CITY — The Philippine National Police will deploy its Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) units to ensure that protesters who do not have the permit to rally cannot get closer to the venue where Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio and President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will took their oath in two separate occasions.
Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio has scheduled her inauguration on June 19, 2022 at the San Pedro Square here in the city while Marcos has scheduled his inauguration on June 30, at the grounds of the National Museum along Padre Burgos Avenue in Manila,
Though as it is today, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director for Operations Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon said, they have not received any information from local government units — particularly Manila, Quezon City, and Davao City, that one has applied for a permit to rally but they expect some groups to be present, a reason why the PNP will deploy the CDM to the area.
In the Davao City inauguration of Duterte-Carpio, de Leon said the regional police command has enough personnel to ensure the safety and security of the event and there is no need to send more troops to the city.
.“As of today, we have not yet received any communications coming from the primary areas like Manila and Quezon City — that includes Davao City — no permits have been issued by our local government units as of this time,” De Leon told reporters after the flag raising ceremony at Camp Crame.
HE added, “Of course the Civil Disturbance Management [has] their roles to ensure that the proceedings in the event area will not be disturbed. So ang trabaho talaga ng [CDM] is to ensure that illegal assembly, illegal rallyists will not get close to the event to disturb the proceedings of the oath taking.”
The PNP, De Leon said, will coordinate with the Marcos’ team for the preparations and will deploy additional 2,000 forces to ensure that the activity will be done smoothly.
He explained “The Presidential Management Staff-designate has already conducted inspection in the proposed area and that is the one that I am to do for today, just to make sure that the police requirements and probably other security forces will offer our services and security package to ensure the flow of traffic, the safety and orderly proceedings of the oath taking.”
The National Capital Region Provincial Office (NCRPO), according to de Leon has enough personnel for the event but forces from the Regions 3 and 4 will only be utilized to ensure that there would be no movements, especially those that are left-leaning organizations taking advantage of this activity.-EZC
