DAVAO CITY — Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) members have nearly filled all hotel rooms in Davao City in preparation for the upcoming National Rally for Peace on January 13, 2025. According to INC leaders, approximately 300,000 participants will attend the event.

Religious group members have already secured accommodations for the rally, with many arriving in the city on January 12, ahead of the gathering scheduled for San Pedro Street.

In response to the large influx of visitors, Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte issued Proclamation No. 1, declaring the suspension of face-to-face classes in all public and private schools and mandating a skeleton workforce for all national and local government offices, including government-owned and controlled corporations, on January 13, 2025.

Classes at all educational levels will be suspended, with schools encouraged to transition to asynchronous learning. The city’s government offices will operate with a skeleton workforce, ensuring the continuation of essential services such as health, safety, and disaster response. Private businesses are also urged to consider similar arrangements to support the welfare of their employees.

Additionally, the city has announced road closures affecting key areas, including San Pedro, C.M. Recto, and Rizal Streets, from January 11 to 13, 2025, to accommodate the event.

“All INC members from across Mindanao will be here, and we expect over 300,000 people,” said an INC representative.
