Int’l, domestic flights cancelled due to ‘Ompong’

DAVAO CITY (September 15) — The Manila International Airport authority cancelled international and domestic flights on Friday due to Typhoon Ompong.

This,  after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geographysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that Ty[hoon Ompong (international name Mangkhut) gained strength and moving at 205 km per hour and with maximum sustained wind gustiness at 255km per hour and nearing the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Cebu Pacific (CEB) on Friday announced the cancellation of flights to and from Hong Kong and Macau scheduled on September 16-17.

“The cancellations are due to Typhoon Ompong, which was forecast to head to Hong Kong this weekend,” CEB spokesperson Charo Lagamon told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The cancelled flights on Sunday, September 16,  are as follows:

5J 150/149 Clark-Hong Kong-Clark
5J 120/121 Clark-Hong Kong-Clark
5J 272/273 Manila-Hong Kong-Manila
5J 110/111 Manila-Hong Kong-Manila
5J 112/113 Manila-Hong Kong-Manila
5J 114/115 Manila-Hong Kong-Manila
5J 240/241 Cebu-Hong Kong-Cebu
5J 362/363 Manila-Macau-Manila
5J 370 Clark-Macau
5J 242 Iloilo-Hong Kong

As of 11:00 Friday, September 14,  Airlines flying between Manila and China, and Manila-Incheon have also cancelled their scheduled flights.

The flights affected include:

Air China (CA) 179 Beijing-Manila;
China Southern (CZ) 3077 Guangzhou-Manila; and
Jeju Air (7C) 2305/2306 Incheon-Manila-Incheon

The total number of cancelled domestic and international flights reached 32

Air China and China Southern also cancelled flights supposedly scheduled on Saturday:
CZ 3078 Manila-Guangzhou;
CZ 3091/3092, 397/398 Guangzhou-Manila-Guangzhou; and
CA 180 Manila-Beijing

The latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Typhoon Ompong was last tracked at 340 km. east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, heading northwest at 30 kph.

As of 3 p.m., the following flights were cancelled:
Xiamen Airlines (MF) 819/820 Xiamen-Manila-Xiamen
MF 8667 Xiamen-Manila
MF 818 Manila-Jinjang
Philippine Airlines (PR) 346 Manila-Pudong
PR 312 Manila-Hong Kong
SkyJet (M8) 816/817 Manila-Basco-Manila
M8 421/412 Manila-Siargao-Manila
M8 715/716 Manila-Busuanga-Manila

Meanwhile, MIAA said the following flights were supposedly scheduled Saturday morning, but were re-scheduled:
PR 685 Doha-Manila
PR 655 Riyadh-Manila
PR 659 Dubai-Manila
PR 683 Dammam-Manila
PR 127 Vancouver-Manila
Emirates (EK) 334/335 Dubai-Manila-Dubai

As of 7:00 n in the evening Friday, about 6,800 passengers are stranded in the different seaports and airports of the country.-NewsLine.ph
