LAMITAN – The vibrant Lami-Lamihan Festival is currently underway in Lamitan City, showcasing the local government’s initiatives and the community’s exquisite crafts. The month-long celebration involves active participation from all residents of Lamitan City.

Yesterday, a grand parade took place, featuring the enthusiastic participation of schools, police personnel, and members of the military. The event aimed to promote unity and showcase the cultural heritage of the city.

During the festival, the burial site of Datu Kalun, one of the city’s esteemed founders, was blessed in a special ceremony. This gesture paid homage to the city’s rich history and the visionary leaders who shaped its development.

The festival also included thrilling activities such as a motorcross event and a celebrity basketball exhibition. In a dazzling coronation ceremony held last night, Miss Lami-Lamihan 2023 was crowned, adding an element of excitement to the festivities.

Representing Lo-ok National High School, Ms. Jennica M. Heramil emerged as the crowned winner of the prestigious title, Miss Lami-Lamihan 2023. Her achievement symbolizes the talent and grace of the young participants in the festival.

Additionally, Ms. Myca Joanna C. Benitez, representing Basilan State Laboratory High School, received the title of Miss Lamitan. The pageant’s First Runner Up was awarded to Ms. Claizel Antonio, representing Damaso C. Furigay Jr. National High School. Meanwhile, Ms. Joanna C. Acari, hailing from Barangay Bato, earned the position of second runner-up. Ms. Nicole Rei R. Bentoy, representing Mindanao Autonomous College Foundation Inc., was honored as the Third Runner Up.

The esteemed event was graced by the presence of Basilan Governor Jim Saliman, who served as the Guest of Honor. In his message, Governor Saliman emphasized the local government’s commitment to revitalizing the economy and supporting farmers and fisherfolk by providing necessary resources, post-harvest facilities, and a conducive business environment. The governor expressed his vision of positive changes and development, aiming to improve the lives of Lamiteῆos and Basileńos and position the city as a sought-after destination.

The Lami-Lamihan Festival serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage and vibrant traditions of Lamitan City. The event not only brings the community together but also showcases the creativity and talent of its residents. As the festival continues, residents and visitors alike are encouraged to partake in the various activities and experience the unique spirit of Lamitan City.
