MANILA, Philippines —- For violating the ASEAN lane, The Land Transportation Office (LTO) revoked the driver’s license of former beauty queen and actress Maria Isabel Lopez.
In revoking her license the LTO cited that Lopez breached the special lane designated for delegates of the ASEAN Summit.
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Celine Pialago announced on Monday, November 27, that the LTO ordered the cancellation of Lopez’s driver’s license.
Lopez violated the Anti-Distraction Driving Act, disregarding traffic signs and reckless driving, because of that she was fined P8,000 and she cannot be issued driver’s license in the next two years.
Lopez removed the diver cones which separated the ASEAN lane from the public lanes and posted on her facebook page she bragged violating the law.
But after a day, Lopez apologized for the act.
It was on November 13, the LTO summoned Lopez to explain her behavior, she explained she badly needed a toilet, a reason she relocated the cones and violated the law, she even made an appeal not to cancel her driver’s license and be accorded a senior citizen discount, saying she used to be law abiding prior to the incident.
But on Monday, the LTO ruled, she violated the law and she must be held liable for the act.-Editha Z. Caduaya/Newsline.ph
