DAVAO CITY — To have an alternative driver’s licensed in lieu of the plactic card shortage, the the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is set to laung a digital driver’s license.

As it is now, the LTO stuggles to issue the real one citing the tidious government procurement procedure.

The electronic version of driver’s license will be issued to drivers who will renew and apply for a license.

LTO chief JayArt Tugade earlier today announced that his agency in partnership with Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), will process to issue the digital license which will serve as an electronic alternative to the physical driver’s license card.

“The advantage of the digital license is that motorists can present it to law enforcement officers during apprehension. It is equivalent to presenting the physical driver’s license,” said Tugade.

“We also appreciate the way the super app functions similarly to a wallet, containing all government IDs, among other things, within your mobile device,” he added.

The digital license, according to Tugade, will be integrated into the “super app” currently being developed by the DICT.

He explained that the digital license aims to replace the Official Receipt (OR) as temporary driver’s license currently printed on paper.

This developed as Tugade warned the public not to transact with fixers and speculators in processing their licenses saying they might end up getting fake receipts and licenses.

“Fake licenses translates to unqualified and dangerous drivers, while fake vehicle registrations mean vehicles that are not roadworthy,” he added.

Recently, the LTO Regional Office 10 and the City Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Cagayan de Oro Cityarrested two fixers who issued fake LTO receipts.

Authorities arrested a woman who was reportedly behind the falsification of documents.

Confiscated from her possession were fake LTO OR, Certificates of Registration (CR), driver’s license, and other accessories in producing fake documents.
